Nigerians love to compare themselves with Americans really much and i dont
really know why. Maybe it's because we have so much in common or because America
is world power or because we have been close allies for a while that i really
don't know but the comparison is good and also not good because America is far
senior to Nigeria in so many things but it's both good and also bad.
9ja & America relationship in summary:
The United States is Nigeria's greatest trading partner and is undeniably its
most important diplomatic partner. With the nullification of Nigeria's June 12,
1993, presidential election, the substantial amount of human rights abuses,
and the failure to embark on a meaningful democratic transition, the United
States has imposed numerous sanctions on Nigeria. After a period of increasingly
strained relations, the death of General Abacha in June 1998, and his replacement
by General Abubakar opened a new phase of improved bilateral relations. As the
transition to democracy progressed, the removal of visa restrictions, increased
high-level visits of U.S. officials, discussions of future assistance, and the
granting of a Vital National Interest Certification on counter-narcotics,
effective in March 1999, paved the way for re-establishment of closer ties
between the United States and Nigeria as a key partner in the region and the
continent.
America has also helped in the security aspect of Nigeria like in assisting with
Chibok schoolgirl kidnapping and some other aspects i can't start listing in this
article.Nigeria too has proved to have concern in the growth of the u.s and has
never failed to help in every a chance that was opened like the counter-terrorism
efforts in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The Government
of Nigeria, in its official statements, has both condemned the terrorist attacks and
supported military action against the Taliban and Al Qaida. Nigeria also has played a
leading role in forging an anti-terrorism consensus among states in Sub-Saharan Africa.
An estimated one million Nigerians and Nigerian Americans live, study, and work in the
United States, while over 25,000 Americans live and work in Nigeria. With the level of
relationship between Nigeria and the U.S, Nigeria is considered a pro-America nation.
All this still brings me to the comparism between 9ja & U.S in the following Aspects
NO 1. Crime
Crime rate in the U.S is far higher than in 9ja due to factors like; higher population, low
regards for humans caused by intake of drugs{this drugs are produced there and are easily
accessable},Poor parenting {with the level of freedom and democracy, parent no longer scold
children},Increased availability of guns,street Gangs,Educational system{increasing dropout
rates}. There is crime also in 9ja but statistics prove crime in the u.s is much more compared
to crime in 9ja.
NO 2. Corruption:
Corruption is like a 100 times in the u.s compared to 9ja, with the vast economy of over $17.914 trillion
as of 2015 this already has a tendency to increase the level of corruption because of the flow from one
government official to another.
their political sector is only tagged democracy but controlled by billionaires with dreams for political
positions it is no longer the votes but the bids.
NO 3. Godliness
If i was asked to rank, i wouldn't put the U.S in my top 100 Godly countries. The state is now so free
that youth have lost there morals and believe. No more fear in God, most people do not even believe in
his existence and with the new passed gay law the percentage of Godliness in the U.S has decreased drastically
because no religion would surpport same sex marriage. To me that has put the U.S in an ungodly state.
Unlike the U.S Nigeria still remains top in rank of African believing countries with our Men of God going
round the globe to share the goodnews. It's not like there is no immorality but atleast there is more
sense of morals and fear of God.
NO 4. Ethnic and cultural identity
The United States is the third largest country in the word with a population of more than 320 million,
according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Because of this, the United States is one of the most culturally
diverse countries in the world. Nearly every region of the world has influenced American culture, as
it is a country of immigrants, most notably the English who colonized the country beginning in the early 1600s.
U.S. culture has also been shaped by the cultures of Native Americans, Latin Americans, Africans and Asians.
The Nigeria culture remains unchanged even in civilization we still get to do annual festival and cultural shows.
NO 5. Creativity
The U.S can be listed among creative countries around the globe, with so many scientists and their great inventions,
they top in the world movie and music industries.
Nigeria too has also been doing well, top in Africa's music and movie industries, with our scientists and proffesors
working around the world and a good percent even in the U.S
The United State of America is a developed country and Nigeria is still a developing country but even as a developing
country,we have archived a lot in 56 years and we should not just sit and compare 9ja with A developed country of over 200
years. we are going to get there, its just a matter of time, focus and determination this is a home of talents and creative
minds, even in the U.S many of their top doctors, engineers, professors, musicians and movie stars are Nigerians and that's
an assurance that we will surely get there.
